The authorities of the University of Jos have installed and handed over urology, organ transplant, and dialysis equipment worth one billion Naira to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) at its tissue typing laboratory.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Tanko Ishaya, who disclosed this at a press briefing to mark his two years in office, said the installed equipment was meant to facilitate the treatment of ailments affecting the kidney, ureter, bladder, male and female reproductive organs, and other non-communicable diseases.

He commended the federal government through TETFund for providing the intervention and thereby ensuring that a feat like this is achieved for the benefit of all.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, further stated that the absence of a governing council for the university is stalling the smooth running of the institution, adding that so many things that required council intervention have been left unattended to.

According to him, such challenges as the promotion of deserving members of the university and the recruitment of staff are important, adding that when workers receive their dues regularly and promptly, it has a way of motivating them to be committed to their duties and responsibilities.

“The instrument that governs the university clearly states that there should be a body that’s saddled with the responsibility of handling our policy matters. The autonomy of the university is domiciled within the operations of the governing council. The absence of this all-important organ of the university greatly affects our operations.
